When you practice scale shapes on your guitar, you likely practice then the way just about everyone else does…

Although this is a really great way to practice scale as a beginner guitarist, practicing this way for every scale pattern will cause you to miss out on really understanding how each scale really works on the fretboard.

You start on the 6th string – play up to the 1st string – play back down to the 6th string – and end where you started.

In the video above, I breakdown why practicing the “traditional” way can causes problems in your understanding of the fretboard and provide you with a simple approach to practicing scales which will help you use your scales in becoming more musical.
